Evaluation of Prep Work
Interpreting the theme
I looked at a lot of clipping techniques so i could relate it to the theme of covert and obscured.
\Recording Observations
I have looked at a lot of other graphic designers for some inspiration and the ideas that they had when designing their work so i could have a brief idea of what i would like to do in my final piece.
Idea Development
The ideas that i wanted to use was a background that has a lot of different materials on it such as paint, ink, black felt tip pen, needle and thread and masking tape. I also wanted to create a colourful poster that has a popular saying/meaning on it. The words will be in different fonts and sizes to make it more abstract and different from what other graphic designers have done.
Materials, Techniques and Processes
I have used a lot of cut outs of magazines and newspapers in my sketchbook to get a lot of different size fonts and different types of fonts so i have an idea of what fonts will look best in my final piece. I have also tried doing a lot of clipping in Illustrator so i could try and do that in my final piece with the words and different fonts that i am going to use such as slurred font, 3D fonts, bubble writing, and handwritten fonts. The few problems that i had with the cut outs are that they didn't have many 3D fonts and different kinds of 3D fonts which is one of the main and most important fonts that i need for my final piece. I didn't have to adapt my ideas because of the materials that are available because most of the materials that i needed such as different coloured paints, black felt tip pens, needle and thread, ink and masking tape are all available.
Influences
Matt W Moore has inspired my ideas for my final piece the most because of the past work that he has done. I like all the techniques that he has used such as the destroyed background and the use of colour in his fonts. I would like to do something similar to his work but by using my own message, different fonts and sizes and my own background that i created. The exam trip to the National Portrait Museum hasn't really inspired my ideas because they weren't as interesting to me as some of the other artists that i looked at on the internet such as Matt W Moore, Alex Trochut, Anna Garforth, Eric van den boom and Luca Ionescu. They have a lot of colourful designs that really attract the eye of a viewer and what i think that i am best at in Graphics.
Final Piece
I intend to make a poster for my final piece which has a message on it and a 'destroyed' background. I will create the background myself and then edit it in photoshop by adding the message onto of it and printing it on A3 paper.
Conclusion
I found this exam quite easy because i planned everything i was going to do so i knew what to as soon as the exam started. Also what i am doing for my final piece is not that complicated so it won't take as much time. I enjoyed a few of the experiments that were related to the final piece that i was doing. I think i will be pleased with my final outcome if it prints out well.
